1988 -1990
I began university in 1989 after graduating high school. I chose architecture, thinking it bridged my interests in art and mathematics, but soon realised it wasn’t for me. Around the same time, a brief relationship ended badly, and a sporting injury left my dominant left arm temporarily paralysed—for the second time in two years.

Needing surgery and rest, I returned to my parents’ home. During that time, I decided to enrol in art college the following year.

Unknowingly depressed, I spent the next several months painting intensely with my weakened left hand. These personal works draw on theology—exploring good and evil, madness, nature and the unnatural.

I have kept them stored for decades. I’m grateful to finally share them—they still hold deep meaning. The final painting reflects on environmental destruction through a gendered lens.
